Tales From Bangkok

July 29, 2001
heh heh heh.

I am starting to get the hang of things... at least I think I am. I am
staying in an infinately better place today, which isn't much, but its
home, well sorta. I still have to go get on of those more perminant
places but this did fine for last night. The place was really expensive
though... 10 dollars, but I was really tired of carrying all of my
stuff around, so I needed some place that locked at least sorta. So I
dropped off some stuff, after walking across bangkok... should have
taken a cab, it took me all morning to walk, but I got to see more
dogs, some wats (temples) and people. I couldn't figure it out for the
longest time... everything was so run down and dirty and dogs
everywhere and no big buildings... but then I got to Siam square which
actually has quite a few buildings this really modern elevated rail
system... it is like two different worlds. I thiink i am going to go
hang out in the shithole part of town tonight. It looks more fun. There
are women and children and travelers and men too, wandering around
everywhere at all hours. It is crazy.

I saw this 3 1/2 foot tall Golden Buddha today. It was quite
impressive. One of the most brilliant shinny things I have ever seen.
And building cannot shut... as in there are no doors or windows, it is
all open. They must polish that thing all the time. So pretty.

So today is going to be a more productive day I hope in terms of
getting some basics done. I went in to ECC (my employer) yesterday and
they told me to come back today to talk to tely...
the goals are: 1) Talk to tely, 2) find a place to live, hopefully that
is not just a crummy hotel room, but we will see, 3) get my luggage. It
is here, oh using the phones is easy, no I swear it is. It only took me
30 minuites max, okay maybe a little more... but now I got it down. A
phone call is one baht. that is about 2 1/2 cents. I put in 10 hoping
for change. nope. Someone's lucky day. Oh I also have an international
phone card now, I wanted a domestic one, but now I will be able to call
the states for a total of 3 minutes probably. Hah! Anyway, after I
figured out how to use the phone I figured out that my luggage arrived,
and I have to go get it. But Now I am goiong to go talk to tely so that
I can figure out where to put my stuff. The big plan is to keep it safe
while I find a place to live... but I do wish I had some clean clothes.
I might go but a shirt before I go to ECC just cause mine is a little
dirty since it is monday and I put it on last thursday. Tee hee.

Oh well, I should go. The food is good. Sometimes it smells REALLY BAD
(not the food) just the city. I think I got rid of my jet lag.

(sneak) (sneak) GOTCHA (sneak)
