Tales From Bangkok

(For those who don't know... Sarah and I are in Varanasi, India... the
holy site of the Ganges river)

anyhow...

So, it was wash day yesterday (boo). But we went through the hand
washing routine. Mix, mix, push, push, circle, push, circle, push,
rinse, squeeze, rinse, squeeze, hang to dry. Unfortunately, after a
couple of hours the sky turned dark and the world grew wet. So, we had
to bring the not-so-dry laundry inside. So, before we went to Sarnath
this morning (The old old place where the Buddha gave his first speach
after his enlightenment), I decided to hang out the laundry.

Side note: The day before, I was warned that the local wild monkeys
sometimes steal clothing... which I was not too keen on believing
seeing as the monkeys are not all that big... (you can see where this
is going, yes?)

So, anyhow, about 5 minutes after I hung up the laundry outside there
were 2 monkeys at our door ( apparently setting the distraction for the
heist) while a third monkey grabbed Sarah's pants off of the clothes
line and bolted. This little fella went up the outside of the building
with a pair of pants 3 times the size of him without blinking an eye. I
sorta watched in amusement, not really reacting, and being thankful
that the pants were Sarah's... heh. Meanwhile, Sarah took off after the
monkey screaming, "Hey, those are my pants MONKEY!"

I was paralyzed with laughter and amusement... (read: I was completely
usless) and Sarah actually caught up with the monkey on the top floor
and for some reason (most likely fear) it dropped the pants and Sarah
snached them back. However, this was not the end, oh no. The monkeys
then became quite pissed off... as you can imagine, because Sarah had
taken back the treasure. So, the three monkeys began to hiss and make
faces at poor Sarah, climbing all around and managed to trap/corner her
on the third floor. This was again utterly amusing cause the monkeys
are about 1/5 of her size. So, anyway, after some deliberation of
whether I should put myself in danger of getting jumped on by these
monkeys, I managed to come to the rescue... (I was a little scared at
first, but overcame the fear, to save the lady in distress.) I hissed
and escorted Sarah down the stairs like a true gentleman.

Ain't no thang these Silly monkeys.
