Talking To The Screen
Whipped :2000
Amanda Peet is stunningly beautiful. That being said, I'll move on. Central to the plot is a group of four friends who meet on Sunday mornings to have brunch and trade stories of the weekend's sexual escapades. One of the characters is married. One is a stock broker. One, the arrogant mock-sensitive writer. And the last is genuinely sensitive and shy...and masturbates ('sturbs) chronically. This is, more or less, all the character development that any of the characters receives. One weekend, miraculously, all three single men meet the perfect woman, and fall head over heels in love. One problem, they've all fallen for the same woman. Oh my! Each of these four guys, and even the love interest, Mia (Amanda Peet) to some extent, is a crude caricature. But like so many crude caricatures, they're really funny. This movie is not interesting and not new. Think 'Swingers' meets 'American Pie 2' (there's sex) meets 'Boomerang'. However, it made me laugh. I think I enjoyed all of those three movies more than 'Whipped', but if you want Gen-X comedy that pokes fun at sex, dating and gender roles, get high and check it out. NB: DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE SOBER, YOU WILL BE ANGRY.
